Alfred Kane

Born to a working class family in Leeds. Joined Army in WW1, then the newly formed Royal Flying Corps. After WW1, moved to Egypt for 2 years flying looted artifacts back to collectors in London until local British authorities put a stop to the private operation and arresting most of the people involved. Alfred moved back to England and can't find work. He barely earns a living doing some automotive engineering and can't wait for an oportunity to get back in the pilot seat.

Alfred is well connected with the underworld in Cairo and to some degree London, but also has a few enemies for a massive string of minor stuff (unpaid aviation petrol, accidentally killing a mule, involved with people arrested for theft etc etc). A notable enemy is Dinsdale Hawthorne a crime boss in east London, his most notable friend, Percivale Tonks who is a dealer in antiquities in Cairo.
